The use of Artificial Intelligence in Education

As part of our ongoing commitment to preparing students for the future, the Jim Thorpe Area School District is exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can support and enhance teaching and learning across our schools.

To ensure AI is used responsibly, ethically, and effectively, the district is currently developing a comprehensive AI policy that will guide both staff and student use. This policy will be presented to the Board in June 2025, with input from educators, administrators, and experts in the field. Our goal is to provide a framework that supports innovation while maintaining safety, privacy, and academic integrity.

As we navigate this exciting and evolving landscape, we want to keep you informed and engaged. A valuable resource we encourage you to review is “AI in Education: What Parents & Caregivers Should Know.” This guide offers insights into how AI is being used in schools, the potential benefits and challenges, and how you can support your child’s safe and informed use of these tools. We recommend going over this document together with your student.

Additionally, we invite you to explore two of the leading AI platforms we are currently exploring for educational use:

SchoolAI

MagicSchoolAI

Both platforms offer free versions that you and your child can explore together at home. These tools are designed specifically for educational settings and include features that promote creativity, personalized learning, and academic support.

Once the district finalizes its AI policy, we plan to adopt one of these platforms or something similar to enhance the classroom experience for both students and teachers.

We appreciate your partnership as we take this important step forward. Please stay tuned for more updates, and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or feedback.

Sincerely,

Robert Presley
