Due to the impending weather, the Jim Thorpe Area School District will be using a synchronous virtual instruction day tomorrow and all schools will be closed. Your students must follow the time schedule the teachers have posted and join all of their classes for live online instruction. All students who do not join their classes and complete their assignments will be marked absent. Please have them check their online class platforms tonight to make sure they understand the period schedule, the times they have to be online for their live instruction, and when teachers are available for office hours help. If you have any questions, please reach out to your student's teachers or administrators first thing tomorrow morning.

Due to the paving work being completed on Route 903 and North Street by the Jim Thorpe Area High School and L.B. Morris campuses, busses may be running later than usual, both before and after school, for the next few days. We just want to make our families aware of these possible delays in our school transportation, so you have time to adjust accordingly. Thank you for your understanding as these possible delays are unavoidable due to the road work being done.
The Jim Thorpe Area School District will be closed this Friday, October 7th, for a teacher in-service day and Monday, October 10th, for Columbus Day. Students will return to school on Tuesday, October 11th.
Starting, Monday, October 3rd, ALL Jim Thorpe Area students will be eligible for free breakfast on a daily basis for the remainder the of 2022-2023 school year. Please have your students take advantage of this opportunity. The federal government has raised the income eligibility thresholds for the 2022/2023 school year for free/reduced lunches for all families, so please make sure that you fill out the application for free/reduced lunches. If you have not completed that application, see the NEWS section of the district's website or contact your school's front office for information on how to apply for free/reduced meals for your student(s) for this upcoming school year.
"Meet the Teachers" night for both L.B. Morris & Penn-Kidder families will be on Wednesday, September 14, from 6-8 PM. The high school's event will be on Thursday, September 15, from 6-8 PM. The district will have a 1/2 day early dismissal for students on Friday, September 16, with the H.S. dismissing at 11:30 AM and the LB & PK schools dismissing at 12:30 PM.
The waivers from the USDA that allowed schools to offer all students breakfast and lunch at no cost have expired and were not renewed. Please see the NEWS section of the district website for information on how to apply for free/reduced meals for your students for this upcoming school year. There is a deadline for these applications, so please do not delay in filling them out for your students.
Gifted Education Program: The agenda for the September 14, 2022 school board meeting will include a presentation of the district's Gifted Education program. This informational agenda will include information provided by the special education director and school psychologists regarding Child Find responsibilities, the evaluation and identification process, and gifted programming.
